Servitization means that companies shift their focus from only making, selling and installing equipment to making money servicing them. This poses a challenge for manufacturers because their products are often so good in quality that a customer won’t come back for 30 years to buy a new one. Servitization enables manufacturers to leverage their core product strengths by providing a suite of services and solutions that help deliver maximum value for both the customers and the manufacturers. The servitization era is heavily focused on the customer. The best way to deliver outcomes that customers want and expect is to constantly study and survey their behaviors. Allocate resources (time, talent and budget) to the areas that matter most to customers and it will pay off in the long run.
